For two decades, the S60 has been Volvo’s entry in the luxury sport sedan market, a vehicle category that remains competitive despite the way upscale automakers have embraced crossovers and SUVs in recent years.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
New this year is a B5 engine range that replaces last year’s T5 and T6 options. It’s strictly gas powered in the S60’s base FWD Momentum trims, but gets mild hybrid assist in AWD models. Now, if you want more performance, you have to move up to the S60 Recharge
plug-in hybrid, which is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
Available Trims
Volvo offers the S60 in Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription trims. All are powered by the B5’s 2.0L turbo mild hybrid four-cylinder engine and eight-speed transmission; Momentum starts with front-wheel drive and can be optioned with AWD and mild hybrid assist; the all-wheel hybrid setup is included in R-Design and Inscription configurations.
Standard Features
Momentum trim comes with two-zone A/C, 18-inch wheels, six-way power front seats with lumbar, digital gauges, power-folding/auto-dimming rearview mirrors, a panoramic roof, passive keyless entry with hands-free trunk access, and heated front seats.
On the safety front, Momentum comes with rear park assist, a lane keeping aid, oncoming lane mitigation, road sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
R-Design adds four-zone A/C, front park assist, Nappa leather, four-way front-seat lumbar, a power driver’s cushion extension, a 14-speaker stereo, wireless phone charging, fog lights, navigation, and a sport-tuned suspension.
Inscription models gain ventilated front seats with power side bolsters, a crystal shift lever, and dashboard stitching.
Key Options
A climate package (Momentum, R-Design, Inscription) adds headlight washers, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The premium group (Momentum) brings power-folding rear headrests, front park assist, fog lights, and navigation.
An advanced option pack (Momentum, R-Design, Inscription) adds 360-degree cameras, a head-up display, highway driving assist, and a trunk-mounted power outlet.
Stand-alone options include park assist pilot, massaging front seats, and an upgraded stereo.
Fuel Economy
Volvo’s fuel consumption estimates are 9.0/6.7 L/100 km (city/highway) for front-drive models, and 9.4/6.9 L/100 km for AWD cars.
Competition
The Volvo S60’s competitors include the Lexus IS, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Cadillac CT4, Genesis G70, Infiniti Q50, and Acura TLX.
