2011 Subaru Impreza

Trim: 5-door Sport
by the_greenry on 04-22-2016
No regrets
I've had my hatchback for 5+ years. No buyers regret. Going to drive it into the ground.

The amazing:
Cargo room! got 2 bikes, few cases of beer, and bookshelf
AWD with winter tires saved my life a couple times
5 speed manual transmission are solid as a rock

The Good:
Reliable. I had a electrical problem with my front turn signals in year 2, got it fixed...otherwise no issues.
I like the look of my car
It's a comfortable cabin, soft bolstered seats.
The 2.5L boxer has enough power to do most things even light towing

The Bad:
Fuel economy, highway was decent 7L/100km, city driving though 11ish
Cabin materials, hard plastics everywhere
The entertainment system was underwhelming. I didn't get the NAV cause when I tested it was lo-res, laggy, and AWFUL

Excellent, Solid, Stable, Reliable, Comfortable Vehicle To Drive!
This is our 7th Subaru vehicle we have owned. We have owned this 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5i LTD AWD vehicle for 4 years and have thoroughly been satisfied with all aspects of this vehicle with the exception that the Gas mileage could be a lot better, more leg room would help and lower the new car price to be more competitive and affordable!

2005 Subaru Legacy

Enjoyed it while it worked
Sorry Subie! Great ride for long distances, hard to beat at high speed cruising, super-smooth 6 cylinder boxer that revs to the redline with no qualms, tough car for carrying really heavy loads, takes on most terrains regular family cars would get stuck on, saved us from many tricky road situations (ice, snow, heavy rain) with surefooted handling, but after 150K so many things started to go wrong at great expense - shafts that wore out (both front and central one going to rear. $2k+), bearings that whined (changed 2 so already $500+). Small electrical issues (hatch solenoid, rear wipers etc.) and several small bits of broken plastic trim.
Four wheel drive and boxer engine layout takes a toll on cabin space - there's little more room inside than a Honda Civic, except maybe wider a little. Large trunk swallows almost anything though.
Drank like a sailor (13l/100km city mostly, could never get it below 10l/100km even on long lightfooted cruises). I'm sure I actually saw the fuel needle moving down visibly before as I accelerated on highways!
Totaled by a stupid truck with a heavy bullhorn recently.
Overall, I will miss this car in spite of its quirkiness. Loads of character. It's a great car but be prepared to pay to keep it going.

2004 Subaru Forester

Trim: 2.5x
by CNDN_DRVR14 on 03-23-2016
The most reliable vehicle I've owned
I'm going to start by saying I've owned 3 or 4 Subaru's. Ranging from 2002-2010. This is by far the most reliable one I have owned (2004). It currently has 347,000km on it. All original with the only real repairs being Water Pump + Timing Belt at 165,000. Brakes, Oil changes, and an o2 sensor last year.
All winter, flawless handling, nothing will compare. 600KM on a full tank that costs about 40$ to fill. Roof racks to carry snowboards, fold down rear seats with LOTS of cargo room. The motor is not as peppy as the WRX or STi, but it is far from sluggish at 175hp.
I would recommend Subaru to anybody looking for a great Daily driver, or just a temporary winter vehicle.

2003 Subaru Impreza WRX

Trim: Wagon
by CNDN_DRVR14 on 03-23-2016
Fun and functional
2003 WRX Wagon. The 3rd Subaru I have owned. Great cars, the AWD is easily the best I've ever experienced. WRX is a punchy little 2.0L boxer. If you drive everyday without really punching the throttle you can easily get 600 KM on a full tank ( about 45$ with 91 Octane). The wagon is extremely helpful and functional as the SEDAN does not have fold down rear seats and the wagon does.
BAD:
Requires 91 Octane fuel or above, Your gas mileage can go from 600 on a full tank to 300 if you are constantly driving it the way it wants to be driven ;). Sporty but functional.
Head gaskets seem to be a problem on these Subaru's if they are abused.
I also have a 2004 Forester with 347,000km and all original with NO REPAIRS except brakes, oil changes, and an o2 sensor.

2009 Subaru Tribeca

Smooth & Relaible
After buying the Tribeca used and driving it for 4 years (117,000km total), I can say that it has been comfortable, versatile and very low maintenance. Fuel consumption is mediocre, but it is a much quicker vehicle with a more advanced AWD system than most comparables. Nothing has broken and the regular dealer maintenance is cheaper than other imports (especially German). Despite the good ground clearance , the suspension setup is happier on the road and gets quite choppy on rough surfaces, unlike other Subarus that are just as happy off-road. Rear seat room is limo-like if you forget about using the 3rd row. Solid vehicle.

You get what you pay for!
A excellent performance car, with an award winning all-wheel drive system what more can I ask for durning winter. Come summer I miss my RWD. The WRX STi is the perfect mix of street driving race car. Plenty of power around town but can be a pain using the stiff clutch in heavy traffic. Lots of space and comfort for 3 adult passengers (4 occupants total). Sound system is fantastic on the Sport-Tech package but needs the benefit of a tuned EQ setting or a new head unit to control the sound all-together once the sound is harnessed the speakers sing.

It's terrific when only it has low kilometer
Very bad with high kilometer, very expensive in maintenance especially in labor. Do not recommend higher kilometer than 150.000, I would say less than 100.000 should be fine but still "very high in gas"! Rather than that it is a good car.

Excellent value
Superior handling, especially for winter driving. Very safe, holds the road really well in turns, and brakes fast and straight. Comfortable leather seats, lots of storage room with back seats reclined. Non-skid mat keeps stored items stable. Heat and air conditioning keep the interior very comfortable. Especially appreciate the heated front seats in cold weather.

Tires????
We took delivery of our 2016 Outback Limited 3.6R a couple of weeks ago. Very nice vehicle overall. One misconception is the tires that came with the vehicle. Right up to the time we took delivery we were under the impression from 2015 Limited models and website tire information that it was due to have Goodyear Eagles but instead it came with the lesser tires of the Touring model (Goodrich Duelers). So the performance is not as good and the snow and wet traction reviews on the Goodrich are not even close to the Goodyear. I assume the reason is the Dealerships get the customers to purchase snow tire packages. In my eyes not a good move.

Subaru Outback Sedan (Not the Wagon)
Purchased new in 2000. This is the best vehicle I have owned. It has 261,000 km. 2.5 liter engine, AWD. It has never failed me. Very reliable, does not burn oil or leak oil. Front drive axles replaced a year ago. Body has rust above rear wheels. Interior showing age. Front seats electrically heated. No problems with transmission, engine, cooling system. Dealer serviced for most of it's life.

Beware Oil Consumption
I own a 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring Model with manual transmission. It is a great vehicle. This is my 2nd Subaru Forester. However, be aware of the additional maintenance cost of putting 1 quart (~1 liter) of oil for every 1200 miles (~2000 kms). This is what Subaru considers normal. Reference Subaru bulletin TSB 02-157-14R and there are numerous articles online regarding this.

It is a great vehicle. It is a comfortable ride and handles well (I live in an area where there is winter). I just wish I knew about the "normal" oil consumption prior to purchasing it as my first ever new vehicle.

I'm not trying to scare anyone off from purchasing this vehicle. It is a great vehicle. I just want to ensure that everyone factors this into their budget of ongoing maintenance costs.

Please note that the 1 star for performance and reliability are strictly related to what I deem excessive oil consumption rate. It might seem normal to others. Other than that I would have given it a 5 in both categories.

2012 Subaru Outback

Lemon!!
bought the 6 speed. Three years out, have to replace the transmission. My last vehicles' transmission lasted more than 10 years so it isn't driver malfunction.

Within one month of buying the car, the blue tooth bit the dust.

10 months after purchase, the steering wheel stereo controls started not working sometimes. 2 years later, none of the stereo controls on the steering wheel still work and the cruise control buttons are starting to crap out.

Who cares if all this is still covered under warranty, a brand new car should not spend this much time in the shop.

Have had a great experience so far, nothing can stop this thing if you know how to handle a manual transmission. Very rewarding experience to have in S# and Track Mode to fell the full potential. The R&D shows in the engineering of the performance aspects of the vehicle that is where the car shines and majority of money was allotted to.

Firing up the turbo charged 265hp engine always gives me a huge grin! This car is on rails through the corners. One of the few remaining driver's cars with manual transmission. It is good on fuel when you ask it to be (consumption <8.5 L/100km is easy to achieve on the highway). The car has a lot of room for you and your friends. Hopefully they like spirited driving...
