Good vehicle for the price
Compared to similar vehicles from other manufacturers, this car is a good value for the money. It is light on frills, but is relatively comfortable.

Mazda 5
It is comfortable, even with 6 people in it. The only issue is the air balance when one window is opened, one on the opposite side has to be opened so that the sounds returns to a comfortable level.

Tires are a bit delicate and expensive, also. Hit a curb, blew the tire, and paid $250 to replace it.

The extra row of seating is convenient. I have not experienced winter driving in it yet. It is comfortable and convenient.

Built like a Brick!
In January of 2011 I got in a pretty bad car accident due to a winter storm and a slippery highway. My Mazda 5 took all the impact in the front leaving my car full of friends safe. Even without winter tires this car was able to stabilize after spinning out of control. Although it was costly to repair the body of my car, it was well worth it because I am alive today!

Read this?
I got this car in 2007, because it was 10 grand less than the 2007 model, and the only difference was middle seat speakers and A.C. I really enjoyed this car for the first month, as it was really the first new car I had ever owned. It then get to be a part of my routine, and it got less thrilling. I still really like this car, it just stalls sometimes (probably my fault, not the cars) and it squeaks on cold mornings.

Fun MiniVan
Purchased this van for our growing family and love it. Great little van that is fun to drive. Does not feel like driving a minivan at all.
Good fuel economy and performance.
Ample storage, was able to carry lots of stuff with both kids in the car and still comfortable.
Sliding doors are great with kids as it was really easy to get them in and out especially our baby.

Decent ride, very versitile, not so comfortable for long trips
I owned this car for 6 years. Great versatility and much cheaper to own than a minivan by far!

Look out for many brake and suspension replacements in earlier models (06-09) and the driver's seat does not accommodate tall drivers and the seats are not the comfiest for long hauls.

Great for a small family with enough room for friends too!!!
I had no problems so far, considering buying again a new model
Although the cargo capacity is not great when carrying six people it is still enough for a week end. It is fantastic to be able to flip forward the last row of seat and make a flat surface to carry lots of stuff (when there is only 4 people in the car). The console (I own a manual model) is simple to use and very practical.

My Mazda5
I bought my Mazda5 a few months ago. For a larger family, it would not be the best. There is little room for the last set of seats and the space between the last set of seat and hatch lid is not very big. But for myself and child, it is perfect. I was able to fit everything and still have room to spare when we went on holidays for 2 weeks. The seats fold down easily to give you that extra space. I found the seats to be comfortable and have had no issues on sitting for long trips. Love the sliding doors, makes it much easier to get my child in and out. If a rear window is lowered and the front ones are closed, you get a "whomping" sound. I just let the front passenger window down a bit and it takes care of this issue. It has been a joy to drive.

Plenty of room for a family of 4
We have been really pleased with the comfort and practicality of the Mazda5. There is a ton of space for 4 passengers (2 in carseats) plus cargo (stroller(s), diaper bag, wagon and so on). There is also the option to expand with a roof rack and storage unit (sold separately). The fuel economy is solid, we usually get low 30's MPG overall between city and highway driving. The 2.2L 4-cyl has a lot of pep as this is a relatively light vehicle and getting up to speed on the highway is not a problem. Leather wrapped steering wheel plus steering wheel mounted volume and cruise control make for nice options to have. The voice recognition/hands-free feature is somewhat primitive compared to Ford's SYNC system, but it is a 2008 and frankly any system I've tried is inferior to SYNC. Overall a nice family vehicle.

2009 Mazda5
I would recommend this car as an in-town commuting family vehicle. We bought this car new and have had no repair problems, just kept up with the service schedule. Easy to drive, good visibility and manueverability. Good gas mileage if you don't have a lead foot. Lots of pep for a four cylinder but not a lot of power going up hills with the car loaded. Overall I am happy with the car.

Solid family vehicle
3 x 2 seating is only the beginning of the features that make the Mazda 5 a great vehicle for families. Excellent fuel economy given the commodious interior space, and sensible features all add up to a very smart car for the budget-conscious parent who still wants a nice car to get from A to B.

GREAT FAMILY CAR
Minivan for small families who commute in the city, the Mazda5 strikes a balance that few other vehicles hit. With front-wheel drive and a 153-horsepower, 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, along with a carlike multi-link suspension setup it feels very carlike—and quite peppy .

It is a great spacious vehicle for my 4 member family.

Love it!
Love this car- I have 2 young children and the Mazda offers exactly what I would expect from a family vehicle- Fuel efficient, roomy and very practical! The 5 passenger seating is great and not to mention the fact that the 2 back seats fold down for extra truck space- I would recommend this car to any family who looks for reliability and efficiency!

Mazda- Cost efficiency at its best
I purchased this car in 2007- just after having my second child- I needed a car that offered plenty of space- and that it did! The Mazda 5 is equipped with 5 passengar seats and plenty of cargo space- the sliding doors make it easy for a mom like me to get the kids easily in and out of the car- The gas savings is incredible- With consistent highway driving daily, I find myself getting the most of every mile - The cross over between mini van and car is eye appealing- the car itself has received many compliments- In fact, I convinced a friend of mine to purchase one as well - Great car overall!

I don't want a mini van
If you are looking for a car and not a minivan that holds a lot of cargo or sits 6? If you have kids that need to go to hockey or football practice. Go and get a mazda5. This thing feels like a car and not a boat. It has power and can get you from a to z safely.

Drives great, room for 6!
Fantastic driving van, feels like a car in every way except for the extra room! Owned for 5 years with zero problems a great vehicle to pickup new or used. Only complaint I have ever had is no Aux jack for MP3 so my XM radio has a little more static than I would prefer. Otherwise I recommend 100%

i have been driving this car for 5.5 years... in that time only had to replace rear shocks @ 110K, the front brakes after 5+ years at 120K... not bad... doesn't burn oil... HATE low profile tires tho... one and only time i will have a vehicle with them... seats are uncomfortable for long drives but the engine has been reliable so far... one minor glitch just under 3 years with a valve that was replaced under warranty... i don't LOVE it but i don't hate it either...

This is an excellent mini minivan, can't beat the 6 seats
My wife loves this car, she was adamant she was not getting a minivan when we had our kids but she absolutely loves the Mazda5. I call it our mini minivan. The 6 seats are the amazing thing about this vehicle, so useful when we have grandparents or visitors staying over or friend's kids to take out. The performance is really perky and fast out of the gates if you need it. We have owned this car for 3 years so far and it came highly recommended from a friend. We can see why. Reliability is good so far in first 3 yrs, the interior is leather but some finishes feel a little cheap - its not really a luxury class car. Where it excels is for the kids. They can get in and out of the captains chairs and the sliding doors make a huge difference. I would like to upgrade to a Honda Pilot or BMW X5 but literally my wife wont let me, she just loves this car. I would recommend you consider the Mazda5 over say a Sienna or Odyssey, its cheaper, faster and has just as much interior space (maybe a little less legroom in 3rd row). Overall this has been a clear winner for the wife and kids, go test drive one and you will see why they like it so much.

Mazda 5 is a great car for the city
Overall Mazda 5 is a great little car if you have an extended family. I love the sliding rear doors, and the fact that I can fit 3 car seats with no problem. It is easy to park and fuel efficient. The engine is strong but I find the brakes are not smooth enough. This car has seating for 6, but the rearmost two seats can only fit a child or small adult. The rearmost two seats can be folded down for expanded cargo space, but in case you occupy one of the two there is no space for a stroller and groceries. I would recommend installing a top rack for storage in case you take the car for a long trip.
