1994 Jaguar XJ12

by 409_Chevy_Racer on 01-01-2016
It sure isn't a Seties III !
No, it isn't ! Dominating Ford styling influence during the dark ages of ownership by the blue oval, are present outside and in.
I bought this car in summer 2013, for almost nothing.. because the engine had a nasty mis-firing at any speed above an idle. Drove it home. Checked and replaced the mutilated spark plugs... and the car just FLYS ! ! ! .. and it has 288,000 KM on it ! This early 94', forged steel crankshaft, 6 litre V12, feels like it's brand new !
The GM 700R4 transmission works perfectly... but the shifter is an utter piece of junk.
Unfortunately, the car has developed numerous problems...
No rear brake action, no A/C, practically no heater, half of the door handles no longer function, drivers seat stuck in rear position, nasty rear suspension clunk ( OK, nearly 300,000 KM ) .
It's destined to be a parts car. The 6 litre V12 will be transplanted into my 77 XJ6C.

2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Trim: LS 5 speed
by 409_Chevy_Racer on 01-01-2016
Fun to drive !
With the 5 speed manual transmission, our base model Cobalt sedan is fun to drive... as long as it's not too far ! Road noise is atrocious, the 90% plastic interior is harsh, and the seats are inconceivably uncomfortable... with their rock-hard "slouch back" rear "cushion", and ram-the-head-forward head rests. Possibly the only seat that's more uncomfortable, would be that in an aircraft.
That aside... we bought ours new in May, 2008. It now has 101,000 prairie KM on it... 100 % trouble free. Other than a new set of tires, the car is stall practically as new ( yes, we REALLY look after it ! )
Should mention, the manufacturer's claimed fuel economy, did not really become reality until the car had over 60,000 KM on it. Now it DOES deliver that.

2009 Pontiac G8

Trim: GT V8
by 409_Chevy_Racer on 01-01-2016
Best affordable late model car
Bought ours used, from a Winnipeg dealer, in 2013, with 96,000 prairie KM on it. Sight unseen, had never driven one before ! Was delivered by transport to us.
Aside from a light valve train rattle in the engine ( extremely common with the "LS" 6 litre engine ), and an idler pulley on the way out... it's a pretty serious car !
PLENTLY of power, though in my opinion, a little too aggressive from idle / low RPM. Can actually be difficult to leave stop signs in a civilized manor.
Nice leather interior, responsive steering, safe cornering, and reasonably quiet at high speed. I would like a bit softer ride though.
I read some of the other reviews, with mild complaints about fuel economy... HHMMM... pleeeze, people... it's a 361+ HP rear wheel drive, performance sedan, that gets over 30 MPG on the highway. That's SPECTACULAR !

1987 Jaguar XJ12

Trim: Vanden Plas
by 409_Chevy_Racer on 12-31-2015
Jaguar Series III V12
1987 through 1992 in Canada... the XJ12 as it's commonly referred to, IS THE definitive automotive statement of elegance, style, luxury and sophistication. I currently own a very nice 87 Vanden Plas, a 78 XJ12L ( Series II... not quite the perfection of reliability of the Series III ! )... and the only step above the Series III V12... a 77 XJ6C, which is getting a 6 litre V12.
Have owned an 82, 85, 86, another 87, 88, and an 89.
I'm actually an enthusiast of early 60's Chevys ( 409's ). I drag race, build cars, build performance engines, and design / manufacture high performance parts. I know cars....
When I'm out of that, on the town, ect... ONLY a Series III V12 Jaguar will do it !
