2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon: In Pictures

Del Mar, California – We had the opportunity to test out the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon mid-size pickups in the sunny oceanside town of Del Mar, California and came away impressed with GM’s redo of their previously mediocre entry-level truck effort.  By importing and updating its global small truck platform for the North American market, General Motors has done more than just create a challenger to Toyota and Nissan in this segment – it’s completely taken it over.

The secret to GM's success is a combination of class-leading power, towing, and fuel efficiency combined with driving dynamics that are more reminiscent of a crossover than a pickup.  The Canyon and the Colorado were put through their paces hauling boat trailers, bikes, jet skis and people, and proved what most people already knew: you don’t need to park a honkin’ big truck in your driveway if you’re looking for a versatile, all-around capable daily driver.

Given that the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma pickups that stand as the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon’s only rivals are over a decade old in design years, it’s not really a fair fight.  Here’s hoping that GM’s mid-size truck renaissance sparks a similar rebirth across this overlooked segment.
