It's got a Ferrari engine, a 177 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made with twin-turbochargers, so it'll run lousy on regular gas. What do you say, is this the new Carabinieri-mobile or what?
This may not be the Veyrons or Lamborghinis of the Dubai Police Force, but the newest addition to the fleet of the Italian Carabinieri is no slouch. Alfa Romeo is helping them add a brace of Giulia Quadrifoglio sedans for special operations use. Special operations in this case meaning escorts, blood and organ transplants, and public events. These are serious cars with the 2.9L V6 producing 510 hp and 443 lb-ft, and unlike the Ford Police Interceptors we know and fear, this Alfa will come with a six-speed manual. All this means 0-100 km/h in under four seconds, and a top speed of 310 km/h. Almost faster than the radio.
Modifications include LED light bars and flashing LEDs all over the exterior, a defibrillator, built in flashlights, a weapon storage area, and of course a space for the flashing lollipops to pull you over. It's also painted in the handsome dark blue Carabinieri livery.
Officers allowed to pilot these two cars will receive special training on track by Alfa driving instructors, and the Quadrifoglios will join the Lotus Evoras already in the special operations fleet. In addition to these two cars, the Carabinieri will be adding 800 less sporty Giuliettas and Jeep Renegades to their regular fleet this year. The Giulia sedan should arrive in Canadian dealers in the second half of this year.
