Mini has released pricing for the all-new John Cooper Works Countryman All4, and while the biggest Mini gets more size, more features, and more power, the price stays the same. The John Cooper Works model starts at $38,500. That's $8,550 more than the Cooper S Countryman, so what do you get for the extra dollars?
For starters, there's a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that is turbocharged to make 228 hp. That's 20 hp more than last year's JCW, and 39 more than the Cooper S, thanks to special pistons, a larger charge-air cooler, and an extra radiator. A sports exhaust is fitted to make the power sound better. That horsepower comes with 258 lb-ft of torque, more than any other Mini. Backing that engine is a standard six-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic is optional. The JCW Countryman comes standard with Mini's All4 all-wheel drive system.
The suspension is upgraded with firmer springs and damping, with sportier settings for the adjustable dynamic damper control. Power steering assist is also revised to improve handling and maneuvering. There is a JCW body kit with new bumpers and side skirts, along with badging on the grille and tailgate. The interior has special seats, steering wheel, and gear shift.
Stopping the John Cooper Works Countryman are new Brembo brakes with four-piston front calipers. The brakes are also used as an electronic differential lock to improve cornering grip. The brakes sit inside new 18-inch wheels.
The JCW Countryman comes standard with LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a 6.5-inch colour display, along with rear parking sensors and camera. A head-up display with special JCW specific displays is optional. The new Countryman is 20 cm longer and three cm wider than the outgoing model, offering a healthy 450 L of cargo space with the seats up, and 1,390 L with them folded.
The Mini John Cooper Works Countryman All4 will go on sale this Spring.
