Later this year, Jaguar and Shell gas stations in North America will launch a cashless gasoline payment system that will let Jag drivers pay for their fill without leaving the driver's seat.
It works like this: First, you buy a Jaguar XE, XF or F-Pace. Then, download an app developed jointly by the Brit car manufacturer and Shell onto your iPhone (an Android version is coming). And once you've linked your phone to the Jag's infotainment system (presumably with Apple CarPlay and, eventually, Android Auto,) you'll be able to access the app from the car's touchscreen to pay and go. We can see this being particularly handy for drivers who prefer full-service gas stations.
The app will help you locate the nearest Shell station, and once you're there, key in the number of the gas pump you pull up to. Fill the car, confirm the amount and away you go. Jaguar says it's also doing research into in-car payment for parking and drive-through restaurants. The app is available in the UK as of February 15, and will be rolled out elsewhere (including the U.S.; Jaguar Land Rover Canada said it will be available here, too, but couldn't confirm timing) throughout 2017.
And in a handful of Jaguar's 2018 models, you'll be able to use that payment system to fuel a 2.0L gasoline four-cylinder that's new to the XE, XF and F-Pace models. It cranks out 247 hp and around 270 lb-ft of torque, and while Jaguar's release doesn't specify, we presume it comes mated to the same eight-speed automatic used with the other engines offered in those three cars.
There's also a new S trim level for the compact XE sedan, sporting more aggressive front and rear valances and powered by a 380-hp V6 shared with the F-Type sports car. And all three models -- XE, XF and F-Pace -- get a new Portfolio trim that builds on the previous top Prestige model. The XE and XF also gain an available hands-free trunklid.
