Jaguar is reportedly in the final stages of developing a high-performance version of its compact XE sedan that it expects will rival sport sedan benchmarks like the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C 63.
According to UK car magazine Auto Express, engineers from Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations team are, as you read this, putting a car that will be known as the XE SVR through its paces against those two German sedans to make sure it has the chops to keep up.
Power will come from the same 5.0L supercharged V8 used in various other high-po Jaguar and Land Rover models, including the F-Type SVR, in which it makes a pounding 575 hp and comes matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission, AWD and a torque-vectoring rear differential. Expect that hardware to migrate to the quickest XE, too.
Look for the XE SVR to dispatch the zero to 100 km/h sprint in less than four seconds and boast obvious upgrades in the braking and suspension departments.
Jaguar is still rolling out mainstream versions of the XE, so don't expect the SVR version to cross the Atlantic before next year, when it would debut as a 2019 model.
