Land Rover Teases New Range Rover Velar

Land Rover Canada today teased the Range Rover Velar, an all-new model it says will fill the "white space" between the entry-level Evoque and Range Rover Sport models.

According to Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern, the Velar is an "avant-garde (model) that brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand."

Land Rover says the Velar name has its origin in the brand's Range Rover prototypes of the 1960s; it's derived from the Latin word velare, which translates to veil or cover.

Speaking of veils, Land Rover is leaving the Velar's in place until a March 1 unveiling, when it will reveal tech specs. We're going to take a guess that there will be some overlap with the model bracketing it, and it will be offered with the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder from the Evoque and the supercharged 3.0L V6 of the Range Rover Sport.

Land Rover says all will become patet on the first of March, prior to the car's official Canadian reveal later that month at the Vancouver auto show.
