BMW has given their compact 2 Series coupe and convertible a mid-cycle refresh for 2018. The updated car comes with modest changes to the front, a new instrument panel, and some tech updates to go with.
You'll be excused for not noticing the changes right away. All models now get LED headlights, with the option to make them adaptive. The BMW-trademark grille kidneys get a slight reshape, as do the fog light openings. Between those fog lights, the front air intakes have been revised as well. At the back, the taillights are now LED lit.

Inside, the instrument display has been revised. The dash has a new geometry that BMW says has "a driver-focused layout." There are new materials as well, including contrast stitching for the dash and piano black trim on the center console. The windows switches get chrome surrounds, and the air conditioning vents have been reshaped.
Behind that new dash, BMW has added the latest version of their iDrive infotainment system. The screen is 6.6-inches, but only cars equipped with the Navigation Professional system have a touchscreen. Those cars get a larger 8.8-inch screen. The new model has wireless charging and an available in-car WiFi hotspot. Active cruise control has been added to the available driver assistance features.
Engine choices remain the same, with the 230i model getting a 248 hp 2.0L turbocharged inline four and the M240i getting the 3.0L twin-turbo inline six making 335 hp. Both engines were new last year.
The top of the line M2 performance coupe will see the same changes and keeps the same 365 hp twin-turbo inline six.
Pricing and availability will follow closer to the on-sale date later this year.
