Aston Martin is getting at least one new model every year for the next seven years, including a mid-engined Ferrari 488 competitor related to the Valkyrie hypercar, according to company CEO Andy Palmer.
Palmer revealed the company's plans to Auto Express, talking about nine new core models in seven years. "It starts with our GT cars: DB11, Vantage and Vanquish," according to Palmer. After that comes the 2019 DBX crossover, the first for the brand. The DB11 has already launched, and the new Vantage and Vanquish were expected later in 2017 and into 2018.
For 2019, the DBX SUV will arrive, along with the Valkyrie hypercar done in association with Red Bull F1. For 2020 is where Palmer revealed big news. "Then we’ll have, for the sake of argument, let’s call it a [Ferrari] 488 competitor," said Palmer. That's going to be a mid-engined car. That means that "the Valkyrie will definitely produce some of the DNA for the 488 competitor." Aston uses "carry over and carry across" engineering, so that what they do for the mid-engined cars still helps advance cars like the DB12, and what they do for the Valkyrie will help make the new model better.
Following the new mid-engined car, two Lagonda models will follow, in 2021 and 2022. The two Lagondas will be luxury sedans, with Palmer hinting at electrification for the two. He said that the electric Rapide would be "doing some of the development work for DBX and Lagonda."
After those two models, the last on the schedule is the DB12, due in 2023.
