All-New 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Gets Cheaper

Subaru has just announced pricing and details for the all-new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. The new compact crossover gets bigger, more powerful, and adds more tech features. And with a new base model starting at $23,695, it's $1,300 cheaper than the old one.

The all-new design rides on Subaru's Global Platform. Launched with the 2017 Subaru Impreza, the new platform is 70 percent more rigid. That means better straight-line stability, more agile handling, and less noise, vibration, and harshness. The new body grows 30 mm longer than the old one, to 4,480 mm, and is slightly wider. It has more heavily sculpted arches and more black cladding than before.

The Crosstrek comes with a new 2.0L boxer four that at 152 hp, makes 4 hp more than the old engine. Subaru says it has better drivability as well. Since it's a Subaru, all trims come with all-wheel drive standard, but there are some transmission choices. Convenience, Touring, and Sport all get a six-speed manual as standard. Optional on those and mandatory on Limited is Subaru's Lineartronic CVT with hill descent control. Touring, Sport, and Limited trims with the CVT get a seven-speed manual mode with paddle shifters.

Subaru has added the latest version of their EyeSight system as an option on Sport and Limited trims. It includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warnings, and lane keep assist. That last feature is new to EyeSight for 2018 and will steer the car back into its lane. Also new are adaptive LED headlights and dynamic guidelines for the rearview camera.

The base 2018 Crosstrek is the newly added Convenience trim. That model lets the Crosstrek ring in at $1,300 less than last year's base Touring model. It gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Touring adds heated front seats, upgraded cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, fog lights, and a 6.3-inch multifunction display above the infotainment system. It has a leather-wrapped steering wheel as well.

Sport adds the LED adaptive headlights, a power sunroof, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Inside, there is premium sport cloth upholstery, a power driver seat, two USB ports, and an 8.0-inch infotainment system.

The top-level Limited trim gets 18-inch alloys, leather seating, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon stereo.
