Jaguar Teases 2018 E-Pace SUV With $42,700 Starting Price

Jaguar Canada announced today it will expand its SUV portfolio next year with a subcompact model called the E-Pace, set to go on sale early in 2018 at a starting price of $42,700.

Details are scant, with Jaguar revealing little more than the fact the E-Pace will be revealed online on July 13.

However, Jaguar's price announcement suggests a further blurring of the lines between compact and subcompact crossovers: the E-Pace comes in well under the larger F-Pace and its competitors, which include the 2018 Porsche Macan, but the newest Jag's tag is notably higher than that for the 2018 Audi Q3, which starts at $34,900.

Either Jaguar is trying to find an untapped piece of a market with a vehicle priced in between other small upscale crossovers, or the British brand is launching with a volume-selling mid-range trim that will eventually be backed up by a less-expensive entry-level model.

Less mysterious are Jaguar's other SUV plans, which include an electric crossover called I-Pace, set to go into production next year.
