Mazda has given the 2018 Mazda6 sedan a decidedly upscale feeling with its latest redesign, unveiled Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The exterior styling gets refreshed, while the Mazda6 also receiving an all-new interior and a new engine option.
Under the hood, consumers will have the choice of a 2.5-litre Skyactiv engine that offers cylinder deactivation or, new for 2018 a 2.5-litre Skyactiv turbocharged engine. That powerplant debuted in the CX-9 and it delivers 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The biggest exterior change is the Mazda6’s front fascia, which includes a new grille and LED headlights as a standard feature. The sedan now also offers 17 or 19-inch wheels.
Inside, the Mazda6 is all-new – except for the steering wheel – and gets higher-grade features. That includes Japanese Sen Wood and a horizontally stretched dashboard that highlights the sedan’s width.
The front seats are also completely redesigned, growing wider and using a vibration-absorbing foam for a firm, supporting surface. Mazda says the seats are designed to help keep front passengers’ spines in the natural S-shape. Ventilated front seats are also available.
The revise also introduces more of the i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies. The radar cruise control is now able to bring the car to a full stop and accelerate again when the vehicle in front moves away. It also receives the newest 360-degree view monitor.
Other new features a new 8.0-inch infotainment display, a reconfigurable 7.0-inch TFT gauge display in higher-trim models and a windshield-projected Active Driving Display head-up unit.
The new 2018 Mazda6 will be available next year, but no on-sale date was announced.
