Toyota is continuing their crusade to add active safety to their entire lineup. This time it's the Tacoma pickup and Sequoia SUV getting the Safety Sense P treatment. The Tacoma adds a new 4x4 double cab trim for 2018, while the Sequoia gets a new nose and a new TRD trim.
Toyota's Safety Sense P package adds automatic headlights, lane departure with steering assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and full speed radar cruise control. The company has been adding it to nearly every model over the last few years, and it's now standard on all Tacoma and Sequoia trim levels.
Toyota is refreshing the Sequoia this year with refreshed styling as well. All trim levels get a new grille and front fascia that add LED headlights, fog lights, and daytime running lights standard. The big family hauler also gets a revised gauge cluster with new gauges and a 4.2-inch info display.
The Sequoia also adds a TRD Sport trim trim SR5 models. That adds TRD tuned Bilstein shocks and sway bars, along with 20-inch alloys, a gloss black grille, and TRD trimmings inside. The only engine choice is a 5.7L V8 that makes 381 hp and 401 lb-ft. It's connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Tacoma sees fewer updates for 2018. The big change is the addition of TSS P mentioned above. At the top end of the lineup, the Double Cab V6 Limited is now available only with the shorter five-foot box, instead of the six-foot box available last year. TRD Pro trims are not available with the long box either.
The price for most Tacoma trims rises by around $1,000.
