A Piece of Mustang For your Wrist

It's a second hand made from second-hand parts. A Danish watch company is taking used Ford Mustang parts and turning them into high-end watches.

"Most people would just see a pile of metal, a ghost of a Mustang. We see something completely different – the soul of a car and a story that needs to be told," said co-founder Christian Mygh. "I’m not cutting up Mustangs. I’m bringing Mustangs that are beyond repair back to life as a watch."

REC Watches take pieces of upholstery, trim, gauges, and other parts from salvage yard Mustangs they find around the world. The bits are then used to make the unique faces, bezels, and hands of the unique timepieces. The design is inspired not just by the pieces they use, but by the classic Mustangs themselves. The power gauge takes its look from the fuel gauge of the early cars, and the watch face itself takes cues from the cars' speedometres.

They will even create custom watches for you, like the model they made for pro drifter Vaughn Gitten Jr. His watch uses carbon fibre from the bodywork of his 700 hp drift Mustang.

Buyers get more than just a timepiece, they get the story of the car. The company tracks the history of the car and makes a video for each customer to share the information. The watch face incorporates the VIN and year of the car used.
