The Range Rover SV Coupe Is A Hand-Built $335,000 SUV

Land Rover has revealed its Range Rover SV Coupe in Geneva, a hand-built prestige SUV that will retail for $335,000 in Canada.

Dubbed by its maker the world's first luxury SUV coupe (not including the now-defunct Range Rover Evoque three-door, we suppose), the SV Coupe will be hand-built, with just 999 examples to be produced.

Land Rover says the SV pays homage to the very first Range Rover, which was offered exclusively as a two-door for its first decade on the market. But where that original was popular among hunting enthusiasts, it's clear the SV Coupe is tailored for a different purpose.

While Land Rover calls out "peerless capability on a variety of terrains," details include front and rear seats that can be done in contrasting upholstery, and the availability of three types of wood trim. With diamond quilt leather upholstery, Land Rover aimed to recreate the kind of ambiance its well-heeled buyers might recognize from their private jets and yachts.

Outside, a new liquid metal paint finish called Liquescence is a Land Rover first, and other paint options include ChromaFlair and satin matte finishes. Whatever paint a customer chooses, it is applied to body panels distinct from those on any other Range Rover model, save for the hood and lower tailgate.

Under the hood lives a 557 hp/516 lb-ft version of the 5.0L V8 borrowed from the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover; that's enough to propel the truck from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and to a top speed of 265 km/h.

Technology includes the Land Rover dual-screen infotainment system with its 10-inch displays, plus a 12-inch interactive driver display and 10-inch head-up display. A 1,700-watt Meridian sound system is there to keep the ears as well-informed as the eyes.

Land Rover'sĀ first-ever 23-inch wheel option comes bolted to an air suspension with four ride heights and a function that automatically raises the car if an obstacle is detected. Permanent 4WD, low-range gearing and a locking rear differential are there to help you get up and over whatever is in the way.

Land Rover says it expects to begin delivering the first SV Coupes to customers near the end of 2018.
