Range Rover Velar Gets Big Dose of V8 With SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition

Range Rover is going Dynamic with a new special edition of the Velar. The SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition gets more power, bigger brakes, and new looks to match the extra grunt.

The 5.0L supercharged V8 is rated at 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque - a massive boost over the 380 hp V6 that powers the Velar R-Dynamic. Land Rover says that it can move the big SUV to 100 km/h from a stop in 4.5 seconds and hit a somewhat astounding 274 km/h flat out.

That big power pump means other updates are needed, like larger brakes and uprated suspension from Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations. Covering those 395 mm front rotors are 21-inch wheels, with 22's as an option. The all-wheel drive system, locking rear differential, eight-speed automatic transmission and air suspension are all unique to the SVAutobiography Dynamic, with the company saying it spent 63,000 hours on the calibration. The new parts include a stronger transfer case that can send up to 100 percent of power to entirely the front or rear axle as needed

The SV Variable Active Exhaust is equipped with a valve to let the V8 sing and removes 7.1 kg of weight from the standard Velar's unit. There's a new front grille and the front bumper adds larger intakes to help feed the V8 and keep the brakes cool. Lower side mouldings and quad-exhaust tips are integrated into the rear bumper. Look closely at the Range Rover lettering on the hood and tailgate, they've gained a knurled finish to add to the look.

Inside are double-stitched, perforated and quilted Windsor leather front seats in an SVA-specific spec. Those front seats are 20-way adjustable with massage and the interior can be had in one of four colour choices. There's a sports steering wheel with a unique contoured rim featuring aluminum paddles. The gear selector and infotainment system controls get the same knurled finish as the exterior lettering, which also extends to the digital dials on the 12.3-inch digital dash.

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition, and we hope they don't try and fit that onto a single badge, will be available from late summer, with pricing to follow.
