GMC is trickling out the all-new Sierra pickup trim level by trim level, and the latest is another high-feature model. The style-targeted Sierra Elevation also shows off the double cab for the first time.
The Elevation is offered as a double cab - that's four doors with short rear doors - with two or four-wheel drive. GMC didn't mention other cab configurations but didn't exclude them either. The new double cab configuration offers 76 mm more legroom for rear-seat passengers compared with the old model.
Sierra Elevation stands out with body colour instead of chrome. The door handles, bumpers, and grille surround are all painted the same colour as the rest of the truck, with black accents including the tow hooks, grille insert, and 20-inch alloys. The truck has LED headlights with GMC's light blade C-shaped running light and C-shape taillights.
Elevation gets a Traction Select system that lets the driver choose drive modes for various terrain modes and conditions. The modes change throttle response and transmission shift points. There are off-road modes and street modes. An X31 Off Road pack adds special suspension tuning with Rancho shocks, locking rear diff, and hill descent control. Along with underbody skid plates, a heavy-duty air filter, and low-range gearing, the X31 is for drivers who frequent the dirt as much as the pavement.
Standard under the hood of the Elevation is the all-new 2.7L turbo four that was announced for the Silverado last month. It delivers a V8-like 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. The Dynamic Fuel Management 5.3L V8 that can run on just one cylinder will be offered, and a new 3.0L turbodiesel inline six will arrive next year with a 10-speed automatic.
Inside, the Elevation uses an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with a six-speaker audio system. A premium system with a higher resolution screen is available as is a seven-speaker Bose audio system.
The 2019 GMC Sierra Elevation is expected to arrive late this year.
