Aston Martin Works is teaming up with a special effects artist to build 28 Goldfinger DB5s. With working gadgets.
The company's previous DB4 G.T. continuation project went well, so now Aston is at it again. The 28 Goldfinger cars (25 for the public, one each for EON Productions, Aston, and a charity auction) will be based on the legendary DB5, reproductions of the car used on-screen.
Since appearing in Goldfinger, the DB5 has been in six James Bond movies, with three different actors playing Bond. It is one of the most iconic film cars of all time.
It won't just be a visual reproduction of the movie car. Each of the continuation cars will be modified by Oscar-winner and 14-time Bond contributor Chris Corbould. Aston isn't saying just which gadgets it will get, other than the revolving license plates, but they will work. So maybe it'll have the GPS tracker and the smoke screen, but don't expect functioning machine guns. Of course, the gadgets mean that the car isn't road legal. Which might not be an issue for you since you can just drop an oil slick, flip the plates, and drive away in your inconspicuous silver classic Aston Martin.
The cars will boast the 4.0L straight six from 1964 that produced 282 hp and let the car hit 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. But Aston says that there will be "some sympathetic modifications" in the interest of better build quality and reliability.
The Goldfinger DB5 continuation cars will be priced at £2.75 million. Plus tax. Deliveries are expected to start in 2020. Until then, you can work on your "Bond. James Bond." Or maybe your Sean Connery impression.
