Toyota Announces Pricing for 2019 Prius C

Toyota has rolled the 2019 edition of the Prius C, its smallest hybrid model, into showrooms with an expanded lineup, a new pedestrian detection function and small price increases.

Like last year, the Prius C is available in a base model and with a Technology and Moonroof package, but new for 2019 is a mid-level Technology trim that allows buyers to option their car up with the full complement of high-tech toys but without the moonroof, and at a lower price.

Also carried over is a standard Safety Sense C suite of active safety features, with a pre-collision system enhanced by the pedestrian detection function we mentioned above, lane departure alert and automatic high beam headlights.

This year's MSRPs start at $22,260, a $270 increase over last year's car. The Tech and Moonroof package comes in at $27,090, marking a $140 bump from 2018, and the new Tech trim goes for $26,170.

Otherwise, the Prius C's fundamentals are unchanged. It is powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine matched with an electric motor and continuously variable transmission. Despite the crossover-like appearance suggested by the black body cladding added in last year's styling update, this little hatch is strictly a front-driver.

The base car comes with 15-inch styled steel wheels, four-speaker stereo and fabric seats. The tech packages bring a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio, navigation, touch tracer steering wheel controls, passive keyless entry, softex synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, alloy wheels and LED fog lights.

The 2019 Toyota Prius C is in showrooms across Canada now.
