Porsche has confirmed that it will be building the Mission E Cross Turismo, the electric lifted wagon that it showed off at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
When the Mission E Cross Turismo concept showed up in Geneva it was a big surprise. Based on the Mission E sedan, it was then lifted with big fender flares and massive rubber. Like Porsche's own Volvo Cross Country. It seemed like a stretch for the street, but Porsche head Oliver Blume hinted that someday, maybe, the company might build it.
Well, not only are they going to build it, it's going to be the automaker's second all-electric model.
Porsche has said it will be based on the upcoming Taycan sedan that started as the Mission E concept. It used that car's 800-volt architecture which allows for the upcoming ultra-fast charge network that Porsche is helping develop.
The company says that the car has 600 hp and a range of 500 km on the old (and generous) NEDC cycle. Porsche pegs the car at 0-100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds, and 400 km of charge in 15 minutes on that ultra-fast charging network.
Since this is a Porsche, expect it to arrive in a staggering array of trims and power levels. And we're excited to see how Porsche's current nameplates of base, S, GTS, Turbo, and the like, will make the transition to electrification.
The automaker didn't say when the vehicle would make production, but the company is planning to hire an additional 300 staff in Zuffenhausen to produce it. The Taycan will be launched to the market next year.
