Toyota Camry TRD Coming to Canada in 2019

Toyota unveiled two TRD sedans on the auto show floor in Los Angeles, and one of them is coming to Canada.

The 2020 Toyota Camry TRD will have exterior styling tweaks prepared by Calty Design Research, Toyota’s California-based design studio partner, and a chassis fortified by Toyota Racing Development.

It starts with the standard content from the SE grade of the Camry, including Toyota Safety Sense-P, and adds on a 301 hp 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with sport mode and paddle shifters, a custom-tuned cat-back dual exhaust, and matte black 19x8.5-inch alloy wheels that are half an inch wider but 3.1 pounds lighter each than those on the Camry XSE. The Camry TRD will ship with Bridgestone Potenza 235/40R19 summer tires.

Calty’s body kit gives a sportier look to the front splitter, side aero skirts, trunk lid spoiler, and rear diffuser. Further accents include a unique gloss black grille, red pinstriping, red painted dual-piston brake calipers to go with 12.9-inch front rotors, and TRD badging.

The suspension gets unique TRD shocks and stiffer coil springs and sway bars in the front and rear to increased roll stiffness by 44 percent in the front and 67 percent in the rear.

Inside, red accents black: faux-leather-trimmed front seats with fabric inserts, red-stitched TRD embroidered headrests, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, red seatbelts, and a shift knob with an embossed TRD logo.

In Los Angeles, an Avalon TRD was announced at the same time as the Camry TRD. However, a Toyota Canada representative confirmed that only the Camry TRD will be sold north of the border to avoid diluting a niche market.

The 2020 Toyota Camry TRD will begin arriving in Canadian dealerships in autumn 2019.
