2020 Nissan Qashqai Debuts in Chicago Featuring New Styling

While it may feel like it was just yesterday that the Nissan Qashqai debuted, it was actually at the 2017 North American International Auto Show as a 2018 model. So, with model year 2020 on the horizon, it was time for a slight refresh to stay ahead of the curve.

Included in said refresh is a new front-end appearance with redesigned headlamp lenses and LED lights, grille and fog lights as well as new tail lamp lenses and 19-inch aluminum wheels. The goal, Nissan says, was to better separate the Qashqai from its (slightly) larger Rogue sibling.

More than simply a cosmetic change, 2020 will also see standard fitment of Nissan Safety Shield 360 to all trims in the US – S, SV and SL. Safety Shield 360 includes emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and high beam assist. Canada hasn’t yet finalized at which levels we’ll be getting the tech, though I would imagine we’ll at least see it on top SL trims, similar to what’s offered on the Murano.

2020 will also see the return of other safety tech such as rear door alert that reminds drivers to check the back seat once they’ve parked, as well as ProPILOT Assist, which makes use of intelligent cruise control to ease the strain on drivers while on the highway or in stop-and-go traffic.

Power from the 2.0 L four-cylinder remains unchanged at 141 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque, fed to either the front wheels or all wheels through an Xtronic continuously variable transmission.

Expect pricing for 2020 Qashqai closer to its arrival in dealers this fall.
