2020 Porsche Macan Turbo Gets More Power, Less Engine

It's been just about a year since Porsche revealed an all-new Macan compact crossover. Now it's time for the fast ones. The new Macan Turbo gets a smaller engine that makes lots more power along with improved handling and braking.

A 2.9L twin-turbo V6 replaces the 3.6L engine of the outgoing Turbo model. The new V6, borrowed from the Panamera and the Cayenne, is even smaller displacement than the 3.0L V6 of the Macan S. But big things can come from small engines. Power is up: to 434 hp from the 348 of the Macan S and the 400 hp of the old Turbo. Maximum torque is 406 lb-ft, even with the old Turbo.

Combine that with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive and a Sport Chrono package Turbo can hit 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. 0.3 seconds quicker than before.

Handling stopping, Porsche's Surface Coated Brake is standard. Those rotors get a tungsten carbide coating Porsche says cuts dust, sharpens responsiveness, and reduces brake wear. Want carbon brakes on your little crossover? Porsche has them on the options list for you.

Porsche says that the optional height-adjustable air suspension has "optimized rolling pistons and new shock absorber hydraulics" for the Turbo. We think that's code for a stiffer Turbo suspension. Torque vectoring is also on the options list.

From the outside, the Macan Turbo has a new front fascia with three large air intakes and Porsche dynamic lights. There are sport side skirts, mirror caps in body colour, and unique 20-inch alloys. At the back, the sports exhaust system has special silver twin tailpipes.

To help you enjoy yourself when you're enjoying all that horsepower, the Macan Turbo has adaptive 18-way adjustable sports seats for driver and front passenger. There's an Alcantara headliner and brushed aluminum trim with the 911's GT steering wheel on option. A 10.9-inch touchscreen display is standard with Bose 14-speaker audio.

The 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo is available to order now. Deliveries will start by the end of the year with pricing starting from $94,200.
