For 2020, Toyota's given the Camry sedan a little bit more tech, but they've also added a lot more sport in the form of a TRD model with improved performance. Now we've got a price for the TRD, along with the rest of the gas- and hybrid-powered lineup for this year.
The big Camry news this year is the addition of the Camry TRD to the lineup. The Toyota Racing Development model adds a whole lot of stuff that'd you'd never have expected on a Camry, intended to make it the choice for enthusiasts. Again not a statement we would have expected from Toyota, but the hardware looks to deliver.
It starts with underbody braces to make it more rigid. That gives the specially tuned shock absorbers and 15 mm lower ride-height springs a firmer foundation to work with. Stiffer front and rear sway bars further increase the suspension's roll stiffness. Toyota's fitted larger 328 mm front rotors with two-piston calipers to the car – replacing 305 mm single-pot versions – to aid braking, and Toyota says that there is a more direct feel to the system. 235-wide Bridgestone Potenza summer tires on lightweight 19-inch alloys finish off the handling changes.
Toyota has also fitted it with a suitable body kit with new front splitter, side skirts, and a big rear spoiler to give it a more sporting appearance. A TRD cat-back exhaust gives the 3.5L V6 no additional ponies (at 301 hp) but what Toyota calls a throatier sound.
The rest of the Camry lineup gains Android Auto connectivity, adding to the Apple CarPlay compatibility the 7.0-inch and 8.0-inch infotainment systems offered already. Other updates include Connected Services by Toyota Audio Plus on top trim models, and there is a new Nightshade Edition that adds black alloy wheels, black door handles and mirror caps, and other black trim.
The Camry is available in a wide range of trim choices with a 203 hp 2.5L four or 301 hp 3.5L V6 both with an eight-speed auto, or a 208 hp four-cylinder and electric motor hybrid system.
