Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring Debuts as Brand's Newest PHEV

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20, 2019 – The Lincoln Motor Company hosted a private event prior to the Los Angeles Auto Show to unveil the newest addition to their lineup, the 2020 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring.

The Corsair Grand Touring follows the introduction of both the Corsair and Aviator Grand Touring models this fall, offering plug-in hybrid capability and the option of pure electric driving. Unlike its larger sibling Aviator GT which features a 3.0L V6 making 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, the Corsair makes use of the 2.5L four-cylinder engine and a PowerSplit electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT). It also gets electric all-wheel drive featuring a motor that puts power the rear wheels when needed – a first in the compact luxury SUV segment according to Lincoln.

The combined total between the four-cylinder gas engine and magnet synchronous motor is projected to be 266 hp with an estimated all-electric range of more than 40 kilometres. Based on the same platform as the Ford Escape, the Corsair Grand Touring will feature Lincoln Co-Pilot360 safety technology, the Lincoln Way app, and Phone As A Key functionality which allows the driver to unlock the vehicle, open the liftgate and even start the vehicle without a key. It also recognizes and sets preferences for the driver’s seat, mirrors and steering wheel.

The Grand Touring also gets two additional drive modes. In addition to options Normal, Conserve, Excite, Slippery and Deep Conditions featured on the Corsair, the Grand Touring model gets Preserve EV and Pure EV modes. Preserve EV recharges the battery, saving up to 75 percent for a later time by using the gas engine and electric motor. Pure EV operates solely on electric power. The hybrid engine will engage should additional power be required based on conditions or driver input.

The Grand Touring gets unique 20-inch wheels and front grille featuring a Spirit Blue Lincoln star. The trim is also identifiable by special Spirit Blue badging and gloss black door accents. The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring will be available during the summer of 2020. Pricing will be announced closer to on sale date.
