The nine finalists for the North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) finalists have just been revealed at the LA Auto Show. The finalists were narrowed down from 29 semi-finalists for the award given out in January in Detroit.
About 50 jurors from across North America voted on the finalists, after each driving dozens of vehicles through the year. The jurors include our own Editor in Chief Jodi Lai, as well as regular contributor Lesley Wimbush. Eligible vehicles must be all-new or significantly revised and be available at dealers before the end of the year. This year's semi-finalists included 12 cars, 12 utilities, and five trucks.
“Every year, manufacturers continue to produce impressive styling and high-quality vehicles with improved safety, more features, more performance and better efficiency. Our job is to evaluate each eligible vehicle and help consumers make wiser choices by presenting the best in each category,” NACTOY President Lauren Fix said.
The finalists for the Car of the Year category include the Chevrolet Corvette, Hyundai Sonata, and the Toyota Supra. Finalists for Utility Vehicle of the Year were the Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and the Lincoln Aviator. Finally, finalists for Truck of the Year were the Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator, and Ram Heavy Duty.
There are three rounds of voting with the vehicles evaluated based on segment leadership, innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, and value. Winners will be announced January 13, 2020, at the TCF Center in Detroit.
