The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid scheduled to arrive in May has been priced at $40,099, not including freight/delivery fees or any available government incentives.
To simplify things, Hyundai is only offering the Sonata Hybrid in one trim, a fully loaded Ultimate model. This is a departure from the previous-generation Sonata Hybrid, which was offered with three trims and as a plug-in hybrid model.
One of the most unique features is a segment-exclusive solar roof, which can help charge the car's battery during sunny days in small amounts and help keep the auxiliary accessories powered. The new Sonata Hybrid gets the same dramatic design as the conventional gas-powered model but with a few enhancements to aerodynamics that should help with better fuel economy like active air flaps in the grille, different wheels, and a unique rear spoiler.
Being a top trim model, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid comes with all the latest technology and features including a head-up display, a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, a 10.25-inch widescreen display, a Bose premium audio system, a fully digital gauge cluster with blind spot cameras, 64 colours of ambient lighting, and more.
The Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that gives a combined output of 192 horsepower. It bucks the industry trend of using continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) in hybrids by using a six-speed automatic instead.
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is officially rated at a combined 5.0L/100 km, which puts it right in line with the Honda Accord Hybrid and the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Pricing for the Honda Accord Hybrid, also only offered in a top-trim Touring model, starts at a lower $36,260, while the Toyota Camry Hybrid comes in three trims: $31,550 for the entry-level LE, $34,600 for the mid-range SE, and $41,350 for the topline XLE.
