The Porsche Taycan sedan first went on sale in Canada for the 2020 model year, but the German automaker is already making moves to expand its battery-electric portfolio, this week pulling the wraps off the new Taycan Cross Turismo wagon variant of the EV.
The 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo rides on the same platform as the sedan and utilizes the same 800V battery-electric powertrain. What sets the Taycan Cross Turismo apart is the vehicle’s wagon-shaped body, which provides rear-seat passengers with a little extra headroom and makes way for an impressive and 1,200 litres of cargo capacity. All Taycan Cross Turismo variants will also come standard with all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension, which work together to improve the vehicle’s off-road capability.
From launch, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will be available in four trim levels. The base Taycan 4 Cross Turismo model comes with a 375-horsepower dual-motor electric powertrain, which will carry the wagon from zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and tops out at 220 km/h. The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, meanwhile, produces 482 horsepower and can hustle from zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. It boasts a top speed of 240 km/h, as well.
Completing the range are the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo and Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo. Both of these models produce 616 horsepower, although the Turbo S can make as much as 750 horsepower for brief periods when launch control is activated. As such, the standard Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, while the Turbo S can hustle to highway speeds in as little as 2.9 seconds. Both have a top speed of 250 km/h.
As for the battery, Porsche says all Taycan Cross Turismo models will come with its lithium-ion Performance Battery Plus, which has a total capacity of 93.4 kWh. The automaker did not mention range figures in its press release, but with standard DC fast charging capability, this electric wagon will be able to add up to 100 kilometres of range in as little as five minutes when connected to the right charging station. The Taycan sedan's range is rated around 320 kilometres, and the Cross Turismo model likely won't be too far off from that.
Customers will also be able to order their Taycan Cross Turismo with an optional Off-Road Design package, which raises the suspension by 30 mm and brings various rugged cosmetic add-ons, including mud flaps for extra protection from rocks and stones. The standard “Gravel Mode” also expands on the model’s off-road capability, helping to improve traction on loose surfaces.
The 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will arrive in Canada this summer, with prices starting at $119,900 for the Taycan Cross Turismo 4 base model. Moving up to the Taycan Cross Turismo 4S will raise the price to $126,800, while the Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo will start at $178,000. The range-topping Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S is priced from $218,000.
