Pricing for the 2022 Mazda MX-30 electric vehicle (EV) has been announced. The new electric crossover is the brand's first EV and it will start from $42,150 when it arrives this fall in Quebec and B.C., offering 161 km of range and Mazda's i-Activesense suite of driver assistance features.
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 EV marks the first time Mazda has sold an all-electric model. The subcompact crossover gets styling in tune with the rest of the brand's crossovers, though it's boxier than the others. It also has rear-hinged back doors, like you would have seen on the RX-8 or extended-cab pickups from the early 2000s.
A 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery gives the MX-30 an estimated 161 km range on a full charge. Level 3 charging means it can be brought from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in about 36 minutes, or two hours and 50 minutes with Level 2 charging. It will come with a two-year subscription to Mazda Connected Services, which allows remote charge monitoring and control as well as remote climate control.
A single motor drives the front wheels, providing 143 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque.
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 will come in two trims. The GS trim offers an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a Mazad Harmonic Acoustics audio system. Radar cruise control is standard as is blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and traffic sign recognition as well as lane-keeping assistance and guidance. It also includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, LED lighting, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The MX-30 GT will add blind spot assist and front cross-traffic alert as well as a Bose 12-speaker audio system, power moonroof, 360-degree parking camera, and a leatherette interior offered in white or brown, both using 20 per cent recycled materials for the fabric insert accents.
