Porsche Expands Taycan Range with New GTS Models

Porsche has used the LA Auto Show stage as a launchpad for its Taycan GTS and GTS Sport Turismo, the latest versions of the brand’s first all-electric sport sedan and wagon.

As in other Porsche model lines, the GTS designation represents a sweet spot, slotting in above the Taycan 4S and below Taycan Turbo both performance and price-wise.

The GTS’s all-electric powertrain makes as much as 590 hp in overboost, good enough to propel the car from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. (Taycan 4S is a 4.0-second car, while the Taycan Turbo does the same sprint in 3.2 seconds.) Porsche says the new GTS variants will arrive in Canadian showrooms in the second quarter of 2022 at $150,100 for the Taycan GTS, and $152,700 for Taycan GTS Sport Turismo.

The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo’s appearance is subtly different from the Cross Turismo versions offered in the Taycan’s other model lines, lacking the existing wagons’ SUV-esque styling cues.

Both Taycan GTS models get sportier versions of Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and rear-axle steering, and Porsche has created a bespoke electronic soundtrack to go with the GTS models’ setup.

Also new to the Taycan line is a panoramic roof with sunshine control. It uses electrically switchable liquid crystal film to change the glass from clear to opaque to reduce glare from the sun while still letting in daylight. The roof is divided into nine segments that can be switched individually from clear to frosted, which Porsche says is a world first.

Watch for the Porsche Taycan GTS to arrive in Canada next spring.
