The Polestar 3 is about to debut as the electric automaker's third vehicle and its first crossover.
Polestar has only released one photo of the new electric crossover, a profile shot that gives a great look at the silhouette as well as some of the new EV's aerodynamic tricks. There is a teaser video that shows us more of the 3, including the nose and tail. Those parts of the Polestar 3 take the brand's styling even further away from its Volvo roots but also show that Polestar isn't abandoning the look completely. The Volvo signature "Thor's hammer" headlights, for example, feature very prominently on the nose of the Polestar 3.
The automaker confirms that the 3 will come with a LiDAR sensor suite it calls best-in-class. That, along with NVIDIA computing power, will offer autonomous highway driving. Polestar was clear that autonomous driving will come later, not from launch.
A dual-motor driveline will be offered on the launch vehicles. Polestar said only that the battery would be "large," and that it is targeting a range of "over 600 km" on the generous European test cycle. That cycle usually returns a number higher than Canadian range figures, but we still expect more than 500 km of range.
We'll get to see the whole EV in October of this year, with orders opening immediately after the reveal. Production is expected to start in early 2023, and will happen at plants in the U.S. as well as China.
