When it arrived in 2007, the first Acadia was pitched as a more efficient alternative to its full-sized truck-based GMC Yukon SUV sibling for buyers who needed three rows of seating and plenty of cargo space. After almost a decade, a smaller, mid-sized Acadia arrived. But now its replacement has debuted at this year's Detroit auto show, larger in every dimension and rightfully regaining its full-sized status.

More Room, Power, and Tech for 2024
Longer, wider, and taller than the outgoing Acadia, it's no surprise GMC says the 2024 version gets more passenger room. It gets seats for seven or eight passengers (one more than the current 2023 model). As for the cargo room, there's almost 80 per cent more behind the third row and more than 36 per cent more behind the second row.
While previous Acadias offered a V6, the 2024 model gets by with a new 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. Compared to the last Acadia, the new one boasts more power with 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque (versus the 2023's choices of a 228 hp/258 lb-ft turbo-four or 310 hp/271 lb-ft V6). An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. GMC adds that the 2024 Acadia has more trailering capability than the previous version.
Inside the 2024 GMC Acadia's redesigned cabin, there's a new vertical 15-inch infotainment display, which is standard across all trims. Mated to the GMC SUV's new portrait display is a standard 11-inch driver information centre. There's more safety gear, and the new Acadia becomes the fifth GMC model to offer Super Cruise, parent General Motors's hands-free advanced driver assistance system.
Off-Road-Ready AT4 and Luxurious Denali Acadia Trims Return
The Acadia's off-road-oriented AT4 trim returns, which GMC claims enables "customers to go further confidently and comfortably." AT4 highlights for 2024 include a one-inch taller ride height and a wider track, 18-inch off-road tires and suspension, the AT4-exclusive Active Torque Control AWD system, and distinctive design cues and exclusive interior appointments.
The 2024 Denali returns as the most luxurious Acadia trim. Its long list of standard and optional features include 22-inch machined aluminum wheels (the largest ever on Acadia), a panoramic sunroof, perforated leather-appointed heated and ventilated front seats, and a Bose premium sound system with up to 16 speakers.
GMC Canada says the next-generation 2024 GMC Acadia will be available in early 2024. Additional details, including pricing, will be announced closer to the start of production.
