Porsche is filling out the all-new Panamera lineup with a pair of new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.
The luxury automaker revealed the redesigned 2024 Porsche Panamera late last year with a longer and wider look. It also had a more powerful base V6, standard air suspension, adaptive dampers, and extensive cabin upgrades.
With that November announcement, Porsche confirmed the 348-hp Panamera and AWD Panamera 4, as well as the 670-hp Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid. Now it's time for the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and the Panamera 4S E-Hybrids to help fill the middle of the range.
The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid uses a version of the base car's 2.9L twin-turbo V6 that makes 300 hp instead of 348. The car then uses its 187-hp electric motor, up 53 from the last-gen model, for a total of 463 hp and 476 lb-ft.
Under the hood of the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid is the same version of the 2.9L V6 as the gas-only model, making all 348 hp. The new 187-hp electric motor brings the total up to 536 hp with 553 lb-ft of torque. With an eight-speed automatic, both E-Hybrid models should be quick, with Porsche claiming a zero-to-100-km/h time of 4.1 seconds for the 4 model and 3.7 seconds for the 4S.
On the hybrid side, the plug-in E-Hybrid models get more battery capacity. The 25.9-kWh pack has 45 per cent more capacity than the previous model and fits in the same space. Charge times are quicker, and the new motor is said to have improved throttle response. Porsche didn't quote a range figure for Canada, but European models will get a little over 90 km on the overly generous European testing cycle. Expect official Canadian range figures to be lower.
Porsche has changed the battery behaviour, too. The E-Hybrid models now have optimized Sport and Sport Plus modes. The car will also automatically switch into Hybrid Auto mode when the charge reaches a minimum value, and it will use the navigation system route to help optimize when EV power is used or saved.
Order books open next month, with the 2025 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid expected to arrive at dealers late in the year. Pricing starts at $129,800 for the 4 and $148,900 for the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid. The already-announced Turbo E-Hybrid starts from $223,200.
