Ford Makes 2024 Mustang Mach-E EV Quicker than Model Y Performance

A comprehensive slate of updates to the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle means more torque, more range, and quicker charging. Ford has also revised the centre screen interface in response to owner feedback. Meanwhile, the new Mach-E Rally is the quickest version of the Mach-E yet.

Every 2024 Mustang Mach-E gets a new rear motor. Ford says the motor is lighter and boosts torque in rear-drive models from 317 lb-ft to 387 lb-ft. AWD models also get a boost and now make 500 lb-ft in most trims or 600 lb-ft in the GT.

If that's not enough, the Mustang Mach-E Rally makes 700 lb-ft of torque along with 480 horses. That upgrade is being offered to GT customers as well, part of the $1,295 Performance Upgrade package that can be added at or after sale and makes the Mach-E GT quicker to 100 km/h than a Tesla Model Y Performance. At 3.3 seconds to 100 km/h, it's half a second quicker than before. GT buyers who don't opt for the Performance Upgrade still get performance seats, magnetic dampers, and Brembo brakes now as standard.

Electric performance is about more than acceleration, though, and the 2024 Mach-E sees improvements there. The more-efficient rear motor boosts range by 32 km versus 2021 to 402 on Mach-E Select RWD. Extended Range models climb to 515, and the new Rally has an estimated 426 km range. The Rally model is hindered by all-terrain tires and a one-inch lift designed to put off-road performance ahead of traveling furthest.

The small battery models can now fast charge at Level 3 from 10 to 80 percent in 32 minutes, almost six minutes quicker than when the Mach-E launched. Extended Range models can do the same in 36 minutes, nine minutes quicker to get drivers back on the road. The 2024 Mach-E will also be able to charge at more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations.

Ford's 15.5-inch portrait-layout screen is the same, but the software is new. Ford says it now displays all settings information on one screen because owners didn't like scrolling. USB and Bluetooth connections are also in the same app because customers didn't want to switch sources. New-look buttons complete the interface changes.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E starts from $54,995 including shipping and A/C tax. Expect the EVs in dealers soon.
