Genesis Launches 3 Series-Fighting G70 Sedan

Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, has just revealed their new compact luxury sedan. The entry-level G70 goes on sale in Korea next week and will arrive in Canada in spring 2018.

The G70 completes the Genesis sedan lineup, sitting alongside the full-size G90 flagship and mid-size G80. It's aimed squarely at the big German three, the BMW 3, the Audi A4, and the Mercedes-Benz C-class. It offers a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.3L turbo V6. A 2.2L diesel will be available, but not in Canada.

The 2.0L four makes 249 hp and 260 lb-ft, and a sport pack will bump the engine to 251 hp. The V6 makes 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. The G70 3.3T will be capable of 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 270 km/h. The G70 will also have an electronically controlled adaptive suspension, tuned on Germany's famed Nürburgring. The sedan is available in rear or all-wheel drive, but Genesis hasn't yet said if Canadians will get both options.

All G70s will have launch control and a mechanical limited-slip differential available. The limited slip allows improved cornering and better traction. The G70 will also have brake vectoring, a system that applies light braking to the inside rear wheel in turns to reduce understeer and improve control.

The interior is designed with premium materials, including aluminum door handles, quilted leather panels, metal speaker grilles, and Nappa leather seating. It will offer a range of colour options, including seven interior colours and ten exterior paint choices.

Outside, this is a sharp looking sedan. The nose features a prominent grille and Genesis logo, with aggressive LED head and accent lights. The taillamps are evolved from the G80, but have been stretched to the corners to give a wider stance.

Genesis is setting itself apart from other luxury brands with their unique approach to sales. The pricing is all-inclusive, meaning no additional freight charges and no haggling. Genesis also only seels their cars online via the Genesis at Home experience, or at boutique stores located in shopping malls. Genesis staff will bring the car to you for test drives and delivery. The Genesis concierge will also pick up and drop off the car for service or repairs. The brand is planning three additional models by 2021, including a sports coupe and an SUV.
