Mitsubishi Motors Canada today revealed details of its restyled 2021 Mirage subcompact car, which comes with some new standard features and a significant price increase.
Mitsubishi first revealed the 2021 Mirage in January 2020 at the Montreal auto show, with a new front end inspired by the brand’s crossover models.
Entry-level ES trim sees its price go up by nearly $1,600 to $13,858 with a manual transmission, and $15,058 with an optional automatic CVT. That base model carries forward its list of standard kit from last year, including automatic climate control, colour-matched/power-adjustable side mirrors, power front windows, auto-off headlights, and LED taillights.
Mitsubishi begins adding new stuff in the SE trim level, which gains a larger, 7.0-inch infotainment display (up from last year’s 6.5-inch screen); 14-inch alloy wheels; and an integrated driver’s seat armrest. As before, SE comes standard with the CVT and is priced at $17,158 – a $660 increase. Carried over from 2020 are keyless entry, cruise control, and Apple and Android smartphone integration.
The top-end GT trim gets the most significant additions to its standard content. It adds forward collision detection/mitigation, lane departure warning and automatic high beams, and a heated steering wheel. LED headlights replace HIDs. Carried over from last year are heated front seats, passive keyless entry, and 15-inch alloy wheels (in a new design). GT’s new MSRP is $20,158, a $1,060 bump compared to the 2020 model.
Unchanged is the Mirage’s powertrain, which comprises a 1.2L three-cylinder engine that works with a five-speed manual transmission in ES trim, or a CVT that’s optional in ES and standard in the rest of the range. Mitsubishi says the Mirage is Canada's most fuel-efficient non-hybrid vehicle.
The Mitsubishi Mirage’s list of direct competitors shrunk by a few models this year with the disappearance of the Nissan Micra, Honda Fit, and Hyundai Accent. That leaves the Chevrolet Spark, Kia Rio, and Nissan Versa as the only other subcompact city car for buyers to cross-shop with the Mirage.
Mitsubishi Canada says the updated 2021 Mirage will arrive in the brand’s showrooms in January 2021.
