Issue: Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause a delay before the rearview camera image appears. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display within 2 seconds of shifting the transmission into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera that is slow to turn on could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the vehicle infotainment unit parameters.

Issue: On certain vehicles, exposure to moisture over time could cause the driver-front airbag not to inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not inflate properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to install a newly designed driver-front airbag inflator.

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. On certain vehicles, the aluminum trim on the front and rear door speaker covers could come loose. If this were to occur, the loosened trim may bend away from the speaker cover and could expose sharp edges, which could increase the risk of injury to occupants. Correction: Dealers will remove the aluminum trim from the speaker covers and replace the trim with an updated part. Note: For the A5 model, it is only the A5 Sportback that is involved in this campaign.

Certain vehicles may have been equipped with airbag and/or pretensioner igniters that do not meet specifications. This could cause affected airbags and/or pretentioners to fail to deploy properly in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace affected airbag and/or pretentioner.

On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the front driver airbag inflator. Note: This only affects the Cabriolet versions of the Audi A4 and S4 models.

On certain Audi A6, A4 Quattro, and Volkswagen Passat vehicles, premature fuel pump wear can lead to pump failure. A failed fuel pump may cause stoppage of fuel supply to the engine, creating an engine stall condition. Should the engine stall while the vehicle is in use, a possible vehicle crash could occur. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel pump.

On certain vehicles, the igniter for the driver's side airbag may not have been properly pressed into position during assembly. An improperly positioned igniter will not activate the airbag in the event of a collision. Correction: Dealers will replace the airbag units on all affected vehicles.
