History/Overview
Now in its third year following a major redesign, the Genesis G80 is one of the most distinctive mid-size luxury sedans on the market today thanks to its use of the brand’s well-executed styling language. It’s also a terrific value.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the G80 for 2023. Genesis added an electric G80 this year, but it’s covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
Available Trims
Genesis offers the G80 in 2.5T Advanced, 3.5T Sport, and 3.5T Sport Plus trim levels. As their numerical designations indicate, Advanced is powered by a 2.5L turbo four-cylinder engine, and the other two trims by a 3.5L turbo V6. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed transmission and AWD.
Standard Features
Advanced trim comes with 19-inch wheels, auto on/off LED headlights with automatic high beams, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, hands-free trunk, and passive keyless entry. Inside, there’s a heated steering wheel with electric adjustments, digital gauges, three-zone A/C, a panoramic roof, head-up display, auto-dimming mirror, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, 21-speaker audio, wireless phone charging, heated/ventilated power front seats, heated rear seats, and leather upholstery.
The G80’s standard safety kit comprises adaptive cruise control, highway driving assist, front and rear parking sensors, surround-view cameras, forward collision mitigation, blind spot monitor with camera, lane change alert, lane keep assist, and driver attention warning.
Sport trim adds 20-inch wheels and an electronically controlled suspension, but gives up the Advanced model’s surround view system and blind spot camera.
Sport Plus gets rear-wheel steering, and adds back the surround view and blind spot cameras, along with remote park assist, soft-close doors, Nappa leather, and an upgraded driver’s seat with additional adjustments.
Fuel Economy
Genesis’s fuel consumption estimates for the G80 are 10.8/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway) for 2.5T models, and 14.8/9.9 L/100 km for V6 models.
Competition
With the G80, Genesis goes up against established European sport sedans like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLS, the Audi A6 and S6, the Volvo S90, and the BMW 5 Series.
