Introduced as a 2010 model, the Lexus IS C was the Japanese brand's one-car answer to Germany's approach to compact two-door luxury cars. Rather than develop separate coupe and convertible versions of its compact IS, Lexus opted to do a convertible with a folding hardtop that promised the best of both worlds.
The entry-level IS 250 C is unchanged for 2015, as Lexus prepares a new coupe, called RC, for a 2016 launch.
Lexus' droptop coupe never saw massive success, likely thanks to the handling compromises inherent in a convertible body, which sacrifices a lot of structural stiffness for open-air motoring.
As before, the IS 250 uses a 2.5L V6 engine delivering 204 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, which comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Natural Resources Canada official fuel consumption estimates are 11.2/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway).
Standard IS 250 C features include an audio system with USB input, Bluetooth and satellite radio, dual-zone automatic climate control with open-top sensor, eight-way adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, DVD-based navigation, backup camera, power tilt-and-telescopic steering, steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, cruise control, passive keyless entry with push-button start, garage door opener, HID auto-levelling headlights with washers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, driver's seat memory, rear-seat one-touch walk-in function and fog lights.
An optional F Sport package adds an in-dash DVD player, front and rear parking sensors, sport-tuned suspension, body skirt package and a hard drive-based navigation system. There are also unique 18-inch wheels and F Sport-badged steering wheel, grille, seats and scuff plates.
IS 250 C pricing starts at $54,850.
