History/Overview
The Mazda3 is Mazda's compact car model, offered in sedan and hatchback body styles. Since its debut in 2004, the 3 has consistently won praise for an engaging driving feel uncommon among economy cars.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2019, the Mazda3 is redesigned into an all-new fourth generation. New technologies include available AWD and fuel-saving cylinder deactivation.
Available Trims
Mazda sells the 3 in GX, GS and GT trims. GX and GS come standard with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. A 2.5L engine is optional in GS and standard in GT. GX and GS 2.0L trims start with a six-speed manual transmission; it can be optioned to a six-speed automatic that's standard in GS 2.5L models and GT trim.
Standard Features
Mazda3 GX comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, tire pressure monitoring, LED headlights and taillights, variable-speed wipers, an 8.8-inch infotainment display and eight-speaker stereo, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, keyless entry and push-button start, electric parking brake, power windows, LED interior lighting, cloth upholstery, an eight-way manually adjustable driver's seat, four-way front passenger seat and a 7.0-inch digital gauge display.
GS adds alloy wheels, automatic on/off headlights, rain-sensing wipers, air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a heated and leather-trimmed steering wheel, heated side mirrors, blind spot monitoring, radar cruise control, collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams and driver attention alert.
Finally, GT brings 18-inch wheels, a power sunroof, automatic headlight leveling, front and rear signature lighting, adaptive headlights, a 12-speaker stereo and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Key Options
GX offers a convenience package that comprises alloy wheels, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, air conditioning, heated front seats and cruise control.
A GS luxury package adds leatherette upholstery, sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror and a 10-way power driver's seat with memory. The GS can also be had with AWD when the automatic transmission is selected.
GT offers a premium package with leather seating, rear automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, passive keyless entry, navigation, head-up display, satellite radio, front wiper de-icer, traffic sign recognition, garage door opener and auto-dimming side mirrors.
Fuel Economy
Mazda's fuel consumption ratings are 8.7/6.4 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine and manual transmission, and 8.4/6.6 with the automatic.
2.5L models are rated 8.8/6.4 with FWD and 9.2/7.0 with AWD.
Competition
The Mazda3 competes with a large field of compact cars, including big names like the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla. Others include the Kia Forte, Nissan Sentra, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and Volkswagen's Golf and Jetta.
