The Solterra is Subaru’s first foray into the battery electric vehicle (BEV) sandbox, but it hasn’t made the journey alone. The company teamed up with Toyota on its first fully battery powered crossover, which is closely related to that brand’s bZ4X model.

The Solterra is an all-new model for 2023.
Available Trims
Subaru offers the Solterra in base, Luxury and Tech trim levels. All three are powered by dual electric motors that provide all-wheel drive traction.
Standard Features
Base models come with LED headlights/taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, passive keyless entry, and a front wiper de-icer, Inside, there’s an 8-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, dual-zone A/C, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated front seats.
The basic safety package comprises automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, forward collision mitigation, road sign recognition, and safe exit warning.
Luxury trim adds a power tailgate, power-folding side mirrors with reverse tilt, LED fog lights, 20-inch wheels, and rain-sensing wipers. Interior additions include a 12.3-inch touchscreen, an 11-speaker stereo, an integrated garage remote, a power driver’s seat, and heated rear seats and steering wheel. You also get 360-degree cameras and advanced park assist.
Tech configuration gains a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, a rear camera washer, and ventilated front seats.
Fuel Economy
Subaru’s energy consumption estimates for the Solterra are 2.1/2.5 Le/100 km (city/highway), with promised driving range of 360 km.
Competition
The Solterra’s competitors include the similar Toyota bZ4X, along with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya, Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Tesla Model Y, and Ford Mustang Mach-E.
