Mazda Recalls RX-8 Sports Car for Heat-Related Fuel Leaks

Mazda has recalled its rotary-powered RX-8 to fix fuel pumps that could develop leaks due to prolonged exposure to heat from the car's exhaust.

Transport Canada's recall notice says that rubber sealing rings in the pump could dry out and crack due to heat and cause a fuel leak. Mazda's fix is to install new sealing rings on the fuel pump, and add insulation to the fuel tank to prevent future heat soaking.

This recall affects nearly 6,800 examples of the RX-8 sold in model years 2004 through 2008 — which is probably every RX-8 sold in Canada during that five-year period.
