Bentley has released details on its first-ever hybrid model, a plug-in version of the Bentayga SUV, which is set for a full reveal at this week's Geneva auto show.
We suspect it's Bentley's generous opinion of itself that led it to claim the Bentayga as the "world's first luxury hybrid;" there are already several upscale hybrids available from automakers like Porsche, BMW and Volvo.
More likely, the Bentayga will be the most expensive hybrid SUV ever offered for sale, through Bentley hasn't said what price its latest model will carry. And neither has Lamborghini with its Urus SUV, though it too has confirmed a plug-in hybrid version is also in the works.
What the prestige automaker has revealed is that the Bentayga Hybrid is a plug-in model that mates a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine with an electric drive system fed by a battery pack that will recharge in as little as 2.5 hours when connected to a 240-volt charger.
Fully juiced, Bentley says the Bentayga will offer up to 50 km of all-electric driving.
What the manufacturer hasn't said it what kind of performance the Bentayga will offer, but given the brand's links with Porsche (both are part of the VW Group), it's likely Bentley is using the hybrid setup found in the Cayenne and Panamera, the latter of which gets 462 hp from its 3.0L turbo V6 and electric motors.
Cabin technology includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen for navigation and infotainment functions, while rear-seat riders get a removable 10.2-inch tablet while a 1,950-watt sound system with 18 speakers will be among the available options.
Bentley will begin taking orders for the Bentayga Hybrid in the second half of 2018.
