Aston Martin is giving the race-ready AMR treatment to its four-door. The Rapide AMR gets more power, a retuned suspension, and improved aero. And the paint scheme from the world endurance Vantage racers.
The Rapide AMR looks like the concept that Aston showed at the Geneva show last year. It adds a new front splitter, wider side sills, a big rear diffuser, and a trunk spoiler. All are tuned to reduce lift while keeping a neutral handling balance. The pieces are all carbon fibre, as is the new hood with big vents.
Under that carbon bonnet, Aston says the Rapide's 6.0L V12 takes inspiration from the Vantage GT12 racer. Larger intakes with new runners add airflow, and a new calibration helps add more power. The V12 for most of the world now makes 580 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. That's up from 552 hp in the standard Rapide S, although the UK and EU version of the AMR makes 595 hp.
Helping to contain that power, the Rapide AMR has 21-inch wheels, a first for Aston Martin, wearing Michelin Super Sport tires. Bringing it to a stop are 400mm carbon ceramic brake rotors up front, with 360 mm in the rear. The front callipers get six-pistons and the rears have four.
The suspension is 10 mm lower than the Rapide S, and the three-stage adaptive dampers have been reworked to make the car what Aston calls "more focused, agile, and dynamic."
Inside, there is a full-length carbon fibre centre console and Alcantara-trimmed seats. A steering wheel with a design borrowed from the One-77 supercar is also available.
The Rapide AMR will be available in three design schemes, including the Signature scheme that pairs the Stirling Green paint with Lime accents that takes its look from the Aston Martin racers.
The Aston Martin Rapide AMR is expected to begin deliveries the fourth quarter of this year. It's limited to just 210 cars worldwide.
