Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off the most extreme version yet of its Colorado mid-size pickup, the ZR2 Bison.
Conceived and executed in collaboration with off-road aftermarket specialist American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the Bison is based on the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 but sports a number of functional additions from AEV's catalog. There are boron steel skid plates to protect the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and differentials, and steel bumpers with fog lights and a winch mount up front, and recovery hooks at the rear.
AEV will also option the Bison with an air intake snorkel that's compatible with any Colorado variant.
The Bison's off-road extras are in addition to the ZR2's standard kit, which includes locking front and rear differentials, Multimatic spool valve dampers, off-road rocker panel protection, cast iron control arms and an Autotrac transfer case.
The standard powertrain is a 3.6L V6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. GM's Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel is an option, and the ZR2 Bison can be had in extended and crew cab configurations.
Chevrolet says the Colorado ZR2 Bison will join the 2019 Colorado lineup in January 2019 and will come with full factory warranty coverage. Pricing will be announced closer to that date.
