2020 Lexus GX 460 Adds Active Safety, Off-Road Kit

Lexus has updated its GX 460 SUV for 2020 with more standard safety equipment, new optional off-road features and revised front-end styling.

The 2020 Lexus GX becomes the brand’s latest – and last – model to get the Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) suite of active safety features and driver assists as standard kit. The outgoing GX offered forward collision warning with automatic braking, radar cruise control and lane departure alert as part of its Technology and Executive packages. Now, those items are included in LSS+ along with pedestrian detection and automatic high beams.

Promising improved off-road performance are a handful of optional features conceived to boost driver confidence. One is a five-mode multi-terrain select system Lexus says regulates wheelspin by automatically controlling the engine’s throttle and applying the brakes when needed. Meanwhile, multi-terrain and panoramic monitors use a network of exterior cameras to broadcast the view of the ground around the GX to the navigation screen.

Finally, Lexus has tweaked the GX’s grille, and placed new triple-beam LED headlights to either side.

The three-row Lexus GX 460’s mechanical components are unchanged. As before, the engine is a 4.6L V8 making 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque, and it’s matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a limited-slip centre differential with electronic locking and low-range 4WD gearing.

Lexus Canada hasn't said when the updated GX will arrive in showrooms, nor when it will reveal the refreshed truck’s price. We’ve asked about those details and will update when provided.
