Dodge Stretches Charger, Creates Widebody Hellcat and Scat Pack Sedans

Dodge and SRT have just expanded their lineup. Ok, maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but if you give them a broad interpretation of the word then you could probably allow for the distended claim to be true. Because there's a new widebody in the lineup. The Charger gets the XXL fender extensions that debuted on the Challenger Widebody two years ago.

The new fenders add 8.8 cm to the width of the Charger SRT Hellcat and the Charger Scat Pack. And they aren't an option on Hellcats, they're standard. Making room for 20-inch diameter wheels that are 11-inches wide wearing 305/35 Pirelli tires.

The Hellcat continues on with a 6.2L supercharged V8 that spins those rear tires with 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, enough to shove the widebody from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds - the same as its narrower counterpart. Dodge says it's quicker on a road course, though, 2.1 seconds quicker on a 3.4-km road course.

The Charger Scat Pack Widebody uses the 6.4L V8 with 485 hp and hits 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and runs the same road course 1.3 seconds quicker.

To go with the new tires and wheels on Hellcat are Brembo six-piston front calipers and unique tuning for the Bilstein adaptive damping. A new steering system with selectable tuning help manage the grip, along with stiffer front springs and larger sway bars front and rear to balance everything out.

Other new-for-2020 features include a Race Cooldown mode that keeps the intercooler pump and radiator fan on longer to cool the supercharger on Hellcat. There's Line Lock, Launch Control, and Launch Assist that works to avoid wheel hop.

Inside, Hellcat Charger gets a new carbon and suede trim pack and a new instrument panel badge. Scat Pack gets new springs, sway bars, and shocks re-calibrated for the other suspension changes. It also gets Line Lock, Launch Control, and Launch Assist.

Canadian dealer orders open this fall and the widebodies will arrive in early 2020. Pricing to follow.
